IT WAS 1984 WHEN...
It was 1984 when Rock, one of the founders of Cut, Shampoo and
Entertainment, better known as Dramatics NYC made his most
important career move. Once an aspiring actor, he decided to bring his
theatrical training into the salon industry. A place to have fun, look
good, feel better and be entertained by characters such as Elvis,
Navy, Clover, and a host of others. New Yorkers loved the concept
allowing Dramatics NYC to flourish into 9 very entertaining hair
salons. Realizing a dream is not an easy process, and without the
support and encouragement of his right hand gal, Rio, he would never
have been able to achieve his vision.
Rio is the real rock of Dramatics and Rock knows it! He thanks
his lucky stars that Rio, his bride and best friend for over 30
years, has been by his side. Safari, Rock and Rio's finest
production, started her involvement with Dramatics after
college. Beginning as a receptionist, she worked her
way up to salon manager and is now the general
manager of all 9 salons. She worked hard and
learned the business from the inside out and is an
integral part of this family affair.

2007: Salon of the Year Contest
Salon goes against salon to be the best Dramatics has to offer.
In 2006 the Dramatics NYC theatrical hair experience "opened up" to include client makeovers playing on our in-salon plasma
screens as well as the introduction of the Story DVDs Work in Progress Lab in the basement of our 900 Second Ave. location.
With the entrance of Yianni Stamas ("Houdini") and his Dramatics Film and Web Team (later to become Story DVDs),
Dramatics NYC began to produce film and theater projects. Rock appearing live on stage in works including "One Flew Over
the Cuckoo's Nest," "Samuel the Fourth" and "Curse of the Starving Class." Television productions include "Beauty Shop" and
special episodes of "Diary." Plus, Dramatics NYC created the 16mm feature film called "Big Dreams: The Dark Side of Desire."
Dramatics NYC started to "streamline" its image. The logo changed and the ambience became cool, hip and trendy in
style with Rock’s favorite sci-fi movie “Blade Runner”
1984-1988: Rebels with a Cause
Actors and hairstylists Rock and Ace started Dramatics NYC as an act of rebellion against the conventional salon
environments that existed at the time. Dramatics NYC was cutting edge and different with set designs in the locations that
included barbed wire, space suits, hanging mannequins, graffiti and chains.
