What is the New Yorker’s Image?

Hello, beautiful people!

Phoenix here with the latest scoop on fashion trends and the impact hair, makeup and color play in putting together the hottest combinations to hit this fall! As an undercover fashionista, I’m here to get to the bottom of the burning question,
‘What is the New Yorker’s Image?’

The melting pot capital of the world, NYC boasts a countless variety of what to wear and how to wear it! One can then imagine the challenge of categorizing the seemingly endless array of fashion do’s and dont’s!

Never fear, however! Phoenix is here, as I’ve interviewed a select handful of everyday New Yorkers with different careers, so we have the inside scoop on their closet escapades!

I sat down with three of NYC’s own: A hairstylist, business woman and a local artist.
They were each asked a series of questions:
1. Do you feel hair color, hairstyle, makeup and accessories add to the outfit you’re wearing? If so, how?
2. What colors inspire you the most when choosing something to wear?
3. Any advice you would give to the everyday New Yorker when it comes to what to wear?

Throughout the next series of blogs, we will go in depth with each of these three New Yorkers as we explore their take on this.

Firstly, I had to stop his one guy. He screamed originality! From his high-lighted blonde mo-hawk, to his studded leather boots. This, was surely a catch for the first interview!

Juan, from “Hair4All” was filled with enthusiasm when asking him my series of questions:
1. Do you feel hair color, hairstyle, makeup and accessories add to the outfit you’re wearing? If so, how?
“I absolutely feel that everything I am is a total package to my appearance. As you can see, I sport an ombre mo-hawk for my love of punk music! The blonde color I add myself as it reminds me of a splash of sunlight. As a stylist, it’s my duty to brighten everyone’s day. Not an easy task. I wear a bit of eye liner and black nail polish. Again, it’s the rebel in me. Anyone uncomfortable with it clearly is scared to be bold and themselves! I say, rock it out and be you!”

2. What colors inspire you the most when choosing something to wear?
“Believe it or not, I love so many colors! I know I’m wearing all black right now, but it’s only to accentuate my hair color! Color can make or break your image. For example, if you’re working in a hair salon, black can either look professional or it can come off as dreary if overwhelming. Balance and choice is key.”

3. Any advice you would give to the everyday New Yorker when it comes to what to wear?
“Oh yes! I’ve got some advice for you, NYC! Be yourselves! It’s what I do everyday for my clients. I help them to bring about that change they’re so desperately seeking. Often times, people are too timid to admit what makes them feel great! The other day, I switched it up on one of my clients. For years we were coloring her hair an auburn brown, but she looked just “ok” with the result. Not dazzled, just ok. That didn’t sit well with me. I was honest with her and suggested from my artistic point of view that a change in style and color would shock her into a smile! She let me do it! By the time we were done, she couldn’t stop smiling! With her new short pixie haircut and crimson low-lights, she was one hot mama! I was so happy for her!”

Tune in next time as I continue to delve into the fashion, hair and art world and how they connect people and ideas together! Our second interview with a conservative businesswoman will certainly be interesting to say the least!
